Westat is an employee-owned corporation providing research services to agencies of the U.S. Government, as well as businesses, foundations, and state and local governments. Westat's research, technical, and administrative staff of more than 2,000 is located at our headquarters in Rockville, Maryland, near Washington, DC.
Westat's Education Studies team is seeking an Associate Vice President with strong business development, client management, project leadership, and research experience to join our team of education researchers, technical assistance providers, and communications experts in the Education Studies Practice. This individual will be responsible for helping to strengthen, diversify, and grow our business and for leading and supporting staff professional growth.

Employees are expected to work on-site at least four days each month. Our core business hours are from 10 AM to 3 PM ET, providing a consistent framework for collaboration. Job Responsibilities:
* Serve on Westat's management team representing the Education Practice to foster growth and develop/implement initiatives ensuring an overall culture of quality and excellence.
* Develop and lead a strategy to diversify Westat's client base with a focus on education-focused foundation and non-profit clients.
* Lead and support others in business development and capture opportunities with foundations, non-profit clients, and federal education clients.
* Direct and manage large projects or a group of smaller projects.
* Supervise and provide mentorship to staff while balancing staff availability, professional growth, and practice and sector financial performance.
* Collaborate on cross-sector activities in priority subject areas and serve as a thought leader both internally and externally.
Basic Qualifications:
* Master's degree in a relevant social science discipline, such as education, psychology, economics, or public policy.
* At least 10 years of progressive project and team leadership experience in education research and technical assistance.
* Proven record of meeting technical, financial, business development and staff leadership goals, including experience collaborating and mentoring research staff at all levels.
* Experience leading projects for the US Department of Education, Institute for Education Sciences, or the National Science Foundation.
* Demonstrated experience developing a strategy and achieving goals for growing foundation and other private-sector business in education research, technical assistance, and communications & dissemination.
This Associate Vice President role is viewed as a thought leader. Effective communication skills and interpersonal skills are essential. The successful candidate must be highly organized, detail oriented, able to take initiative, as well as direction from Education Studies and Westat leadership. Must be capable of managing multiple tracks of complex business activities simultaneously. Must be effective working both independently and in teams with a commitment to fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative work environment.
