Continuity Planning Analyst (Journeyman)

Cherokee Nation System Solutions, LLC, is seeking an experienced Continuity Planning Analyst (Journeyman) to join our Cybersecurity Oversight and Compliance Team. This position will work with the Continuity Planning Lead and our federal client to ensure the continuity of IT services and business operations within the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). This position will play a supporting role in developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive business contingency and IT service recovery plans. The analyst will work closely with federal and contracting staff in operations, application software development, cybersecurity policy and risk management, service recovery providers, and other NSF stakeholders to ensure that the agency's IT infrastructure can withstand disruptive events and quickly recover to minimize operational downtime. The role will require expertise in disaster recovery, risk management, and the development of actionable contingency strategies.

Continuity Planning Analyst (Journeyman) Responsibilities Include:



  • Contingency Planning: Develop and maintain IT contingency, business continuity, and disaster recovery plans in compliance with federal regulations, NIST standards (e.g., NIST SP 800-34), and NSF requirements.
  • Risk Management: Conduct risk assessments and business impact analyses (BIA) to identify vulnerabilities and ensure mitigation strategies are in place.
  • Service Recovery: Design and implement service recovery procedures, defining recovery time objectives (RTO) and recovery point objectives (RPO) for key systems and services.
  • Plan Testing and Validation: Coordinate full-scale tests of recovery plans, ensuring processes are validated and improved based on testing results.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Work with NSF directorates, divisions, and branches to integrate IT business continuity and recovery into overall NSF preparedness initiatives.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed documentation on contingency and recovery plans, providing regular updates to leadership on plan status, exercises, and recovery capabilities. Assist the Cybersecurity Oversight and Compliance Team with updating and peer reviewing IT security and privacy documentation as needed.
  • Training and Awareness: Stay informed on evolving continuity, IT, and cybersecurity practices and federal guidance. Develop and deliver training programs to ensure staff are familiar with their roles in business continuity and disaster recovery.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all contingency planning activities comply with federal laws, regulations (e.g., FISMA), and security standards.
  • Continuous Improvement: Regularly assess and update the contingency planning process to reflect changes in technology, business needs, and regulatory requirements, implementing lessons learned from incidents and testing scenarios.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned



Continuity Planning Analyst (Journeyman) Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:



  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years in IT service continuity, disaster recovery, cybersecurity policy, or business continuity planning, with at least 2 years in documenting policies, procedures, and plans.
  • Strong knowledge of disaster recovery tools, IT infrastructure, risk assessment/mitigation, cybersecurity, and service recovery best practices. Familiarity with systems analysis, design, and documentation for complex contingency planning. Experience with cloud-based environments (e.g., AWS, Azure) and hybrid IT setups is a plus.
  • Relevant certifications such as Associate Business Continuity Professional (ABCP), Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Disaster Recovery Certified Specialist (DRCS), or Disaster Recovery Institute International (DRII) certifications are highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of risk management, business impact analysis, and continuity planning.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance.
  • Experience with continuity and recovery planning for large, complex IT environments.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with federal regulations, such as FISMA, NIST, and FEMA standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Teams, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and Zoom.
  • Experience with ServiceNow a plus.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience in federal government or public sector IT continuity planning.
    • Knowledge of cloud disaster recovery solutions and virtualization technologies.
    • Experience working with federal agency-specific systems or classified information environments.
