Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, the incumbent will be assigned to the Citywide Focus Hong Ling Team. The Hong Ling team has a focus on Asian clients. The incumbent will provide tangible case management services such as arranging temporary housing, filing for benefits or welfare assistance, scheduling client personal activities in accord with psychiatric problems and prescribed care; provide a supportive relationship to clients; provide crisis intervention as needed; make appropriate referrals; maintain client records according to California, City and County requirements; and participate in an interdisciplinary treatment team. Attend staff meetings and participate in training sessions, other duties assigned.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $37.56 - $50.31 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH) is dedicated to providing services that integrate medical, psychiatric, and addiction treatment. SFGH is the largest provider of acute psychiatric care and the only San Francisco provider of psychiatric emergency care.

Required Qualifications


  • CSW I: Master's degree in social work, psychology or related field from an accredited university; and registered with the Board of Behavioral Science as An Associate Clinical Social Worker (ACSW) or Associate Marriage Family Therapist (AMFT); and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to this position.
  • CSWII: Master's degree in social work, psychology or related field from an accredited university; and possession of the requirements necessary for application for licensure as determined by the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to this position.
  • Case Management experience.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to work in a high stress, high volume area and work well under pressure and with deadlines.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately, and be detailed oriented.
  • Able to efficiently prepare written summaries of activities, set priorities and complete reports within required timeframes.
  • Knowledge of medical and/or psychiatric terminology.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work as a team member in a culturally diverse setting.
  • Able to lift 50lbs and climb stairs.
  • Demonstrated excellent attendance and reliability.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background clearance.
  • Possess a valid CA driver license
  • An understanding of mental health issues and sensitivity toward mental health clients.
  • Ability to work with clients and program staff from diverse cultural and social class backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Two years working with severely mentally ill adults, the homeless and dual diagnosed populations.
  • One year experience doing community based case management and the ability to do outreach including to SRO hotels.
  • Prior experience working with Asian clients doing community-based case management
  • Ability to provide therapy and other mental health services in Cantonese or another priority Asian language.
  • Prior related UC experience

License/Certification
