Position Description

This position is responsible for coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating existing Neighborhood Safety Department initiatives; researching and planning new violence prevention initiatives; grant development; contract management; budget and financial management; community partner relationship development and maintenance; and violence prevention outreach and advocacy. This position will work on developing and expanding the Community Safety Ambassador program. This position will be for a two-year assignment. Work Location This position currently works on-site only. The City of Minneapolis does not sponsor applicants for work visas.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

- Contract management includes developing contracts, negotiating scopes and budgets, working with city partners to execute contracts, monitoring contracts, scheduling periodic site visits and contract review meetings, informal and formal monitoring of activities, regular check-ins, tracking performance, and approving invoices.?
- Provide ongoing technical assistance and training for contracted support and outreach providers. This includes outreach, and programmatic strategies for violence prevention, assessing the necessity of resources, procurement of services and resources, as well as training in various violence prevention models.?
- Implement the ongoing development of the Community Safety Ambassador program, expand to multiple cultural districts. Determine strategic direction of program. Make recommendations for service delivery and program design. Serve as City contact for vendors, neighborhood organizations, other safety providers.
- Inform the ongoing development of the Community Ambassador initiative, gather and analyze research on national Ambassador trends and data, academic literature on violence prevention strategies, effects and impacts of violence on a community level, and effective implementation of culturally sensitive and responsive programming. ?
- Community partner relationship management and technical assistance. This includes cultivating relationships with community-based agencies and non-profit organizations, providing knowledge and service on specific violence prevention initiatives.?
- Interfacing with partners, including Minneapolis Police Department, 311, Neighborhood Safety, Hennepin County and other relevant community agencies. ?
- Building connections with groups to partner with: Social Service agencies, Minneapolis Public Schools, career internship programs, etc. ?
- Provide input on request for proposal (RFP) development. Review and analyze the various consultant proposals and oversee funding of RFP.?
- Represent the department in public health planning initiatives sessions. Facilitate planning around initiatives designed to improve the health and well-being of people who are impacted by neighborhood disruption and violence.?
- Staff department and community advisory committees for ongoing violence prevention initiative planning. ?
- ?Serve on a variety of boards and community coalitions, communicating current initiative activities, advocating for funds, and responses to community health issues
- Identify and propose the development of new partnerships. ?

Required Qualifications

Minimum Education Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Human Services, Psychology, Social Services, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Youth Studies, Youth Development, Sociology, Community Health, Education, or a closely related field or equivalent.? Minimum Experience Three or more years of related experience.
Equivalency
An equivalent combination of education and highly related experience in a similar environment may be considered. Selection Process The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience and/or an oral examination (100%). It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score (70%) on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. Background Check The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. Union Representation This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement between the City of Minneapolis and the Minneapolis Professional Employees Association (MPEA). Eligible List Statement The names of applicants who meet minimum qualification and who pass the screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for employment consideration. This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. This eligible list will expire upon hire. Interview Selection The hiring authority reserves the right to determine the maximum number of candidates to interview from the established eligible list. If the hiring authority decides to interview other than by exam score order, they may select additional people to interview based on a candidate's education or experience related to the field, work history, or skills uniquely related to the operational needs of the position.

- Experience working in outreach.
- Experience in working with populations with significant socioeconomic disadvantages, mental health issues, and traumatic life experiences. Understanding of vital resources needed to aid and care for this population.
- Experience working in high-stress situations with individuals who often experience trauma stemming from homelessness, poverty, and other socioeconomic disparities.
- Ability to work with, partner with, and communicate with individuals from different worldviews, life experiences, cultural backgrounds, and social classes.
