Job Summary

The Manager of Decision Support Systems is responsible for managing information systems supporting Decision Support and Financial Planning including managing cost accounting and designing new cost accounting strategies, patient data analysis and enhancements, financial data analysis and any informatics tools supporting those functions. This position will perform all tasks necessary to maintain and support applicable systems. The manager is the key individual responsible for ensuring that data applications, projects, and reports are automated to the fullest extent. Performs management duties with a team dedicated to the support and maintenance of decision support systems.

Essential Functions

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Service Standards of the Hospital(s).

  • Defines an overall vision for the use of technology in Decision Support and Financial Planning. Plans and organizes the overall priorities for both the budget and the patient data systems. Creates an annual plan for managing routine and ad hoc tasks for budget and patient data.

  • Reviews patient level and financial data and remediates any discrepancy with source systems. Designs and implements the system structures to support the costing and patient data teams. Reviews and approves requests for system enhancements.

  • Prioritizes enhancements for budget and patient data. Ensures that upgrades and enhancements are applied in a timely manner and plans for implementation in coordination with the system users. Works with Supervisor DSS to interpret the practical applications of upgrades.

  • Works with the Financial Planning Director and Executive Director to identify pain points and/or advise as to how the system might solve workflow problems.

  • Partners with department and hospital leadership to generate ideas for maximizing the use of EPSi. Act as subject matter expert for all EPSi functionality. Addresses barriers to EPSi budget and patient data projects with other department managers. Engages I.S. in ensuring that the upstream systems are feeding into EPSi as intended.

  • Works with the DSS Supervisor to examine release notes for upgrades and train EPSi patient data users related to any changes. Ensure that EPSi metrics are consistent with Data Governance and solve problems related to inconsistent metric results between departments. Stay abreast of metrics utilized in other enterprise departments to ensure that EPSi is consistent.

  • Works with Service Line Leaders, physicians, the Enterprise Analytics Team, and the Planning Team to ensure data produced by the Financial Planning and Decision support teams meet the needs of the enterprise. Creates report-outs for department leadership.

  • Identifies and assess workflows in DSS and make changes to improve timeliness and quality of the deliverables from DSS and Financial Planning. Create venues to discuss enterprise needs and design processes to meet those needs.

  • Prioritize the work and determine the order in which projects are completed. Trouble-shoot complex problems and assign team members to implement sustainable solutions.

  • Performs management functions by interviewing, selecting, and providing training for new staff; by approving or disapproving recommendations from subordinate staff on personal actions; by evaluation subordinates' performance; by hearing and resolving employee grievance; and by determining the need for and initiating disciplinary action in order to ensure adequate and competent staffing for unit/department.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Bachelor's degree in a work-related field/discipline from an accredited college or university

Experience: Five (5) years of directly related work experience

License/Certification: None required.

  • Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirement related to the functional area

  • Significant experience and skill with technical solutions and systems

  • Ability to provide leadership and influence others.

Pay Range

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.

Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

Minimum to Midpoint Range (1.0 FTE): $141,024.00 to $187,002.40
