Job Description

The Sobrado Laboratory in the Department of Chemistry at Missouri S&T seeks candidates for a Post Doctoral Fellow position in the area of Mechanistic Enzymology. The successful candidates will be actively involved in an interdisciplinary team that will investigate enzyme mechanisms, inhibitor validation, and characterization, perform X-ray crystallography analyses, collaborate with other biochemists in the group and outside Missouri S&T, and administration of the laboratory. Candidates should have demonstrable skills in high-throughput screening, organic chemistry, and theories for biophysical sciences.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform protein expression and purification for biochemical assays and crystallization
  • Perform enzyme kinetic analyses including steady-state kinetic and rapid reaction kinetics
  • Develop appropriate methods for the determination of the mechanism of action of enzymes
  • Collaborate with scientists in the research group
  • Provide expertise in design, optimization, verification, and documentation of enzyme assays
  • Serve as mentor to undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory.
  • Lead and participate in outreach and educational activities, as well as developing instructional materials
  • Author/co-author articles for publication and presentation in scientific journals
  • Ensure all relevant safety policies and procedures are followed and appropriate training is acquired and maintained
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in biophysics, chemistry, biology, or related area
  • Experience in computational biology and biophysical methods
  • Strong research record
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with good task organizational skills for timely accomplishment of activities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in successful determination of enzyme structure and mechanism, and molecular dynamics and simulation
  • Demonstrated experience in writing and publishing scientific literature
  • Experience in stopped-flow spectrophotometry and isothermal calorimetry
  • Experience with high-throughput screening and associated experiments
  • Ability to meet intermediate objectives toward the accomplishment of milestones for the advancement of concurrent projects
  • Excellent publication record
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
