HP093 Support Scientist We are seeking a highly skilled scientist to join our Solar Physics Mission Development Team at NASA/GSFC. This role calls for a committed individual who will help guide the development of optical devices and instrumentation for missions to study the Sun, with particular focus on the extreme ultraviolet (EUV) region of the spectrum. A significant part of the role will include: collaboration with the GSFC Detector Development Lab (DDL) on design and nanofabrication of diffractive optical devices, integration of the devices in instrument designs, laboratory calibration validation of instrument designs using EUV vacuum test facilities in the Heliophysics Science Division (HSD), development of calibration and analysis techniques for data from the missions that will include these instruments, and preparation of materials for mission proposals and refereed publications. The role requires an individual who has a keen interest in continuous learning, possesses exceptional collaboration skills, and is committed to delivering high-quality work. Primary Responsibilities: Work full-time on-site at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center Solar Physics Lab. Actively contribute to mission concepts and implementation to address Heliophysics science goals. Perform original research to advance state-of-the-art optics for EUV imaging spectroscopy. Design and execute test procedures to validate and calibrate EUV optical instrumentation. Enhance and broaden the scope of analysis tools for scientific mission data, such as inversion algorithms used on solar images with spatial-spectral overlap. Serve as author or co-author on proposals for funding and refereed publications. Required Experience: Bachelors degree or higher, Ph.D. preferred, in Physics, Engineering, or related field. At least five years of related experience. Proven experience in nanofabrication and device characterization with tools such as atomic force and scanning electron microscopy. Authorship of research in refereed publications. US Citizenship or Permanent Residency (LPR) required, with residency in the US for the past 3 years is required. Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance is required. Desired Experience: Experience with machine learning models for analysis of images and spectra Proficiency with scientific Python packages such as NumPy, SciPy, and AstroPy.
