Assists the Pharmacy Delivery Services Manager and other department leaders in daily operational and logistical tasks for medication deliveries. In addition to the duties of a courier, the Lead will be responsible for attending meetings, completing work schedules, assisting with fleet maintenance, and assisting operations staff as needed in the absence of their manager.
Assists supervisor with building and creating workflows and training tip sheets in the delivery routing system, Samsara. All couriers are required to provide timely delivery of prescriptions in an accurate, courteous manner to WVU Medicine patients and Staff, while adhering to prescribed transportation criteria and Pharmacy policies. In addition, the Lead will deliver reports and supplies to clients and will adhere to all hospital and departmental policies and procedures. The lead should be willing to work as part of the delivery team in order to ensure that items are complete, packed correctly and delivered safely to the correct patient. The Lead Courier performs a wide range of technical functions in support of pharmacy operations in those aspects that do not require the professional judgment of a pharmacist. Functions in accordance with established guidelines under the direct supervision of the pharmacist. Last, they assist with all courier related issues and new hire training when needed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. High School Diploma or equivalent. 2. Possess a Valid Driver's License. EXPERIENCE: 1. Three (3) years of courier experience. PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS: EXPERIENCE: 1. Two (2) years of pharmacy courier experience or other healthcare related experience. 2. One (1) years of experience working with hospital related systems management. Other duties may be assigned. 1.Effectively utilize technology tools, including proficiency with vendor software, specifically relevant to fleet management, logistics, and the duties of the courier role. 2.Ability to problem solve complex delivery locations. 3.Capable of assisting with the oversight of delivery operations and leading couriers in the Manager's absence. 4.Order supplies through vendors and internal platforms for maintaining inventory when needed. 5.Responsible for resolving fleet management and field logistical issues in both the Manager's presence or absence. 6.Has direct patient contact when delivering medications to patient homes for Specialty Pharmacy and Home Infusion (HI). Example: capturing signatures, collecting copays, retrieving dispensed supplies. 7.Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations to limit drug diversion, including collecting necessary patient documents and requesting government issued identification if needed. 8.Assists and delivers packaged pharmaceuticals, supplies and equipment in a timely, safe and accountable manner. 9.Cooperates with other pharmacy staff members when planning and organizing daily delivery services. 10.Collects patient information to include verification of relationship to patient, proof of delivery, and collection of payment information. 11.Maintains patient privacy at all times according to HIPAA and ensures security of Protected Health Information and Medications that are couriered. 12.Collaborates with pharmacy staff to train and manage the collection of appropriate prescription and patient information upon releasing medications and supplies to patients. 13.Ensures proper handling and storage of all medications (i.e. refrigeration). 14.Meets expectations for customer satisfaction, attempts to anticipate customer needs, and reports concerns or complaints. 15.Follows up with Director or Manager on issues that cannot be resolved by coworkers or that require immediate attention. (i.e. inclement weather, company vehicle issues). 16.Addresses customer and coworker complaints in a timely and empathetic manner. 17.Restocks delivery and shipping supplies in the department warehouse, storage units, or other identified areas. 18.Performs daily cleaning of vehicle and transport carriers as well as assisting director with oversight of all Fleet. 19.Relays offer to counseling and additional information to patient/patient representative and have same validate acceptance/declination of offer. 20.Maintains records for items delivered and mailed from pharmacy including, but not limited to, prescriptions, supplies, and non-prescription medications; maintains logs for medication owed to patients in order to track correct disposition of owed medications. 21.Assists with the access and security for fleet vehicles to ensure organizational compliance and patient privacy during any delivery or in the presence of medications and protected health information. 22.Participates in Department Leadership Meetings and other meetings or committees as needed. 23.Provides and maintains working schedule for other couriers in cooperation with the department's operational needs. 24.Helps oversee and schedule Fleet Maintenance, Recalls, and any other Service related items. 25. Provides feedback to Manager regarding employee performance, training needs of staff, and process improvement. 26. Weekend call may be required as needed. 27. Certain duties cannot be assigned to the Courier because these duties or privileges can only be performed by pharmacists, interns, and technicians.
