Position Summary Information


Primary Purpose
Responsible for physical appearance of University grounds by mowing, raking, planting, fertilizing, trimming, or watering. Uses mowers, rakes, or other hand and power tools typically used in gardening.
Essential Functions

  • Mows, trims, edges and sweeps university lawns and grounds.
  • Waters fields and grounds as directed.
  • Performs tree and shrub maintenance to include planting, trimming and fertilizing.
  • Ensures proper care of equipment, tools and supplies.
  • Collects trash and removes in appropriate containers.
  • Performs minor repair of equipment.
  • Assists with set-up and tear-down of outdoor stages, tarps, tables and chairs.
  • Identifies maintenance or repair need and reports to appropriate personnel.
  • Assists in special construction projects as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
* Knowledge of maintenance and operation of grounds equipment.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of lawn maintenance, and of lawn maintenance equipment use and repair.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.


Physical Requirements

Work is performed primarily outdoors with exposure to various temperatures and weather elements. Exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Extensive physical activity. Constant bending, walking, standing, lifting up to 100 lbs., pushing or pulling up to 200 lbs. Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. Repetitive use of hands.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:

Union membership required.

Valid driver's license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the University's fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University and its insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.
Hiring Range 20.67 per hour. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
