Summary of Position Functions

The Controls Engineer will gain an understanding and working knowledge of Veregy's technology products and building automation systems. The engineer will utilize this understanding to design, implement, and optimize building automation systems that control various commercial systems including HVAC, lighting, access control, etc. The engineer will optimize control sequences to reduce energy consumption and increase facility wide energy efficiency. The engineer will also be responsible for managing project implementation which may include managing sub-contractors, project scheduling, progress reporting, and budget management.

Essential Position Functions

  • Assists with and manages building automation implementation projects by leading progress meetings, supervising subcontractors, ordering material, and managing budgets.
  • Assists engineering and project teams with design, programming, and commissioning of building automation systems.
  • Writes and optimizes building automation control sequences to reduce energy consumption to increase facility efficiency.
  • Assists project teams with the creation of design and construction documents as they relate to building automation systems and other Veregy technology products.
  • Troubleshoots low voltage circuitry in the field and verifies functional requirements are met.
  • Responds to and rectifies customer issues or occupant comfort complaints in a timely manner.

Education and Qualifications

To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Engineering - Mechanical, Electrical or Software from four-year college or university; or three+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in project management required.
  • Either Distech, Reliable Controls, or Niagara experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Veregy's services and processes is required which can be obtained through intellect, technical inclination, and dedication to gain such knowledge.
  • Knowledge (Intermediate to advanced) of various operating systems, software products (e.g. MS Office, etc.), is required.
  • Computer software proficiency including Microsoft Project, Viewpoint, RS Means, Trimble Estimating and / or other job-related hardware and software applications that may be required.
  • Must have strong analytical skills and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to multi-task.
  • Must have excellent written, verbal, and diplomatic communication skills.
  • Must have strong ability to collaborate with other engineers to methodically solve complex problems.
  • Must have experience with at least one CAD software program.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently manage time / workload.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, business, professional, and technical documents.
  • Ability to effectively respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and staff.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to write presentations, articles, routine reports, proposals, and correspondence.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentages.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and tactfully negotiate priority with end users.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure and extra hours if needed.
