The Automotive Technician position is responsible for working in support of the lab supervisor and technical staff on dynamic automotive tasks/projects. Frequent multi-tasking is required. The Technician will be required to operate and maintain a variety of applications based testing equipment. The Technician actively participates in planning, performing and documenting applications based testing and pilot trials at our facilities and plant locations, as well as, testing and sampling at customer facilities. The Technician is also expected to perform routine and non-routine laboratory analysis. Supervision responsibilities may include occasional work with contractors on new equipment installation or repair of existing test equipment. This position is located in North Charleston, SC.

How you will impact Ingevity:

  • Perform various tests on automotive canisters to support customers, as well as, automotive carbon product development.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain equipment for automotive carbon testing.
  • Assist in specification, design, and installation of specialized testing equipment in the Auto Lab.
  • Compile data and results on automotive testing, including electronic records of operating conditions and results of specialized testing equipment.
  • Participate in pilot trial campaigns in the lab and at off-site locations as needed
  • Participate in Departmental safety effort through participation in regular safety meetings, and safety committees.
  • Perform monthly technical center safety inspection on a rotating basis
  • Learn and assist with non-automotive applications and testing as-needed

What you need to succeed:

  • Schedule: Monday-Friday (4:30am to 12:30pm) + some rotating weekend hours
  • Associate's degree in a technical or scientific field with 1-2 years of related experience required, or Bachelor's degree in a scientific field in lieu of experience. 5 years of field experience to be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • The Technician should have a strong technical background and a proven ability to complete tasks on a project without close supervision.
  • Computer competency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Aptitude for mechanical work desired, including process tubing, minor electrical/electronic wiring projects, and assisting in building specialized test equipment with reasonable supervision.
  • Experience in the troubleshooting of complex equipment highly preferred.
  • Experience in data systems management, database management, understanding of labview, use of pivot tables highly preferred.
  • 3D printing experience and use of CAD type engineering software preferred
  • Must be able to consistently work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, late evenings and weekends.
  • Must be able to travel occasionally 10-15%
  • This role is not eligible for relocation assistance.
