Human Research Protections (HRP) within the Office of Research is responsible for ensuring the ethical and equitable treatment of all human research subjects in studies conducted by UCI faculty, staff, and students. It is also responsible for ensuring compliance with federal regulations, state laws and University polices, as well as national standards for research involving human participants.


Your Role on the Team

Under the general direction of the Senior Director, provides analytical, technical, and professional support to the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the UCI research community. From inception to completion, applies federal regulations, state statutes, and/or UC/UCI Human Research Protections policies and procedures to research protocols submitted to the IRB.

Uses advanced human subjects research compliance concepts to interpret highly complex and broad regulations, policies and guidelines. Regularly works on highly complex research compliance issues where analysis requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria to anticipate and identify problems and develop and implement the appropriate response and / or action. Serves as a technical expert and advisor to department head.

Manages and supervises a Human Research Protections team of one full time employees, including but not limited to recruitment, hiring, day-to-day supervision, and setting team goals.

NOTE: This is primarily a remote position. Infrequently, this position may need, or be required, to work on campus.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $85,400 - $103,250.

Required:

  • Demonstrated self-discipline and independent judgment completing highly complex, broadly defined assignments.
  • Advanced knowledge and ability to apply all relevant Federal, state, and university regulations policies, and federal guidance documents.
  • Strong proficiency in public speaking, and writing.
  • Proficiency with computers, including the ability to operate personal computer software with sophisticated retrieval, storage, and merging capabilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in human subjects research administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred:

  • Advanced knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research design, scientific research concepts and terminology.
  • Certified IRB Professional (CIP).
