Job Details:

Purpose

The Clinical Outcomes Specialist will work as part of the Health Transformation and Design Program (HTD) at the Texas Center for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease (TCPCHD) of the University of Texas Dell Medical School and Dell Children's Medical Center. This position will work in collaboration with faculty, nursing staff, and the Heart Center team to measure, analyze, and report clinical outcomes of patients to fulfill the mission of the TCPCHD of providing lifetime comprehensive and holistic care for patients with congenital heart disease.

Responsibilities

  • Enter clinical data for reporting to the different cardiovascular quality registries such as the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) Congenital Heart Surgery Database, the American College of Cardiology (ACC) IMPACT Registry, and the Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Consortium (PC4) Registry, among others.

  • Participate in the design and creation of clinical research and quality improvement projects related to the mission of the program.

  • Create timely and accurate reports for quality assurance conferences and outcomes reporting. Use clinical databases and national registries to identify opportunities for improved outcomes and cost reduction using available resources.

  • Abstract clinical data from medical records, registry forms, clinical rounds, and other available sources to measure clinical activity and outcomes of the Program. Help design and maintain the database infrastructure required for clinical data collection and reporting.

  • Abstract and analyze data from available databases and registries for clinical research projects, quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives, and administrative purposes.

  • Participate in initiatives for long-term follow-up of patients, including abstracting information from available clinical records, designing automated follow-up tools, and contacting families and medical providers as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Registered Nurse (RN) with 3-5 years of clinical experience. Special interest in database management and quality improvement. Self-direction, critical thinking skills, and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. High computer proficiency, including basic MS Office, MS Access, data visualization, graphics, and database software. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Basic project management and statistical reporting knowledge. Experience with the use of electronic medical records and clinical data.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in design and management of databases, registries, and quality improvement projects. Knowledge of informatics and/or analytics. Clinical experience in pediatric and/or congenital heart disease. Experience with creation of quality reports. Familiarity with Congenital heart disease databases. Experience with statistical software.

Salary Range

$80,000+ depending on qualifications
