General Notes

The Office of the Dean of Students staff serve students through programs, events, resources, and services that encompass student support, student involvement, and student conduct. The Office of the Dean of Students is one of eight departments in the Division of Student Affairs.

The Associate Director of Organizational Development and Risk Reduction position is located within the Student Involvement portfolio of the Office of the Dean of Students. Student Involvement is comprised of units supporting all student organizations, leadership opportunities, campus-wide programming, and volunteer and service opportunities.

Purpose

Serves as the primary administrator managing the Organizational Development and Risk Reduction team, including oversight of the Safety Education Program, hazing prevention, the Successful Student Organization Program, and additional programming that enhances student organization development. This position works closely with the other units in the Dean of Students portfolio and campus partners, particularly Student Activities, Sorority and Fraternity Life, Student Conduct, and health promotion offices across campus.

The Associate Director supervises an Assistant Director, Coordinator, up to two graduate assistants and a peer education student staff.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the execution and strategic direction of risk management and safety programming for all student organizations, including but not limited to the Safety Education Program and hazing prevention efforts for the institution. Collaborate with the Associate Directors of Student Activities and Sorority and Fraternity Life to develop and implement programming across the Student Involvement Portfolio.

  • Oversee the Successful Student Organization Program including assessment, strategic direction, process improvement, and supervision of all staff involved in the daily operations of the SSOP. Work directly with organizations engaged in the program, and specifically support organizations enrolled through the provisional return process, including all relationships with campus partners and stakeholders.

  • Recruit, select, train, and supervise the ODRR team, including up to 2 full-time professional staff, graduate assistants, and student staff. Provide training and development for staff throughout the student involvement portfolio related to risk reduction and hazing prevention initiatives.

  • Collaborate with staff from the Office of the Dean of Students (DOS) and campus partners to develop resources, content, or workshops in alignment with the objectives of the unit. Communicate and provide updates to DOS staff and campus partners on an on-going basis.

  • Represent the Office of the Dean of Students on Division of Student Affairs and University committees, task forces, campus orientations, resource fairs, and requested speaking engagements. May be assigned additional tasks such as assisting with or creating workshops, training or curriculum develop for student organization growth and development.

Required Qualifications

Master's Degree required. Six to eight years of experience in risk reduction, hazing prevention, sorority and fraternity life, and/or student program coordination in a Student Affairs or Higher Education setting. Experience supervising full-time professional staff. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated proficiency in organizational and interpersonal problem-solving. Experience in program management and evaluation. Experience managing program budgets and effective allocation of resources. Excellent time management and organizational skills. Ability to exercise good judgement, make decisions, and manage concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment and under the pressure of deadlines. Experience in conducting comprehensive program assessment including student learning outcomes.Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with prevention, risk management, and public health communication concepts and education. Experience with student conduct educational sanctions. Demonstrated experience with assessment or program evaluation. Demonstrated strategic and innovative approaches to problem solving. Experience building partnerships and collaborating across departments in a large, public institution.

Salary Range

$80,000 non-negotiable
