JOB PURPOSE:

To monitor the activities of residents of the shelter/center and to ensure compliance with program rules and expectations. Shelter Monitor is also responsible for ensuring the safety of residents and the security and sanitation of the program. The Shelter Monitor will help to oversee and to take reasonable action necessary to carry out responsibilities assigned as long as such action does not deviate from established organizational policies and is consistent with program guidelines and sound professional judgment.


Qualifications
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Responsible for providing a safe, structured environment that meets the needs of the client while maintaining professional and acceptable boundaries at all times.
  • Maintain positive relationships with clients, and management staff.
  • Maintain a comprehensive and accurate written record of events that occur during shifts, as well as thorough incident reports.
  • Document all serious incidents completely, accurately, and in a timely manner.
  • Consult with direct supervisor or supervisor on-duty regarding residents' personal needs and behavior.
  • Utilize positive behavioral management techniques including verbal redirection.
  • Assist residents within limits in processing issues and problem-solving.
  • Monitor all areas of the shelter to ensure compliance with facility rules, policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Hyper-sanitization of all areas in the shelter
  • Respond to residents' requests, complaints, and inquiries
  • Address procedural violations with residents to ensure a clear understanding of expectations and to assist resident with achieving compliance
  • Conduct orientation/assist with intake, assign beds and lockers, issue linens/personal supplies and other items to residents entering into the shelter
  • Brief and provide direction and needed assistance to volunteers and or any other staff
  • Conduct regular inspections documenting opportunities for improvement
  • Identify and respond to any Client/Resident who is experiencing a problem or crisis to ensure that they are safe and that other service providers are aware of the situation and able to respond with appropriate services
  • Teach good personal hygiene skills.
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries with residents at all times.
  • Gain a working knowledge of policies.
  • Perform other duties as directed and assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED required.

EXPERIENCE: 2+ years' experience working with low-income/at-risk/homeless individuals or vulnerable populations, strongly preferred.

ATTENDANCE: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the

employer's sole discretion.

LICENSES: Driver's License with a clear record.

VEHICLE: Must have daily use of a vehicle without prior notice.

OTHER: Must be available and willing to travel to various locations and with such frequency as the business need dictates. Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of himself/herself or others.
